Male suicide bomber kills 4 in Borno, injures 13

Suicide bombers attack

No fewer than four persons were killed in a suicide bomb attack on Thursday at Amarwa community of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno.

The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. when a male suicide bomber infiltrated the village and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strapped to his body.

An eye witness, Bukar Fantai, disclosed that the bomber managed to sneak into the village disguising as a grain merchant.

Fantai said that the insurgent first approached a shop keeper and offered sorghum for sale.

He said the terrorist, thereafter, went to a shade where many villagers gathered for relaxation and detonated the explosive.

“The suicide bomber detonated the IED, blew up himself, killing three other persons, while 13 others sustained injuries in the explosion,” he said.

A competent security source confirmed the attack, saying that the wounded persons were referred to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment.

The source said that Police EOD and patrol teams had been deployed to sanitise the scene of the attack, adding that normalcy had been restored to the area.

Attack On Christmas: Boko Haram Burnt 3 Persons to death, Abduct Awoman in Borno

At least three persons were burnt alive and a woman abducted by Boko Haram militants, who attempted to overran Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on Monday- Christmas day.

The persons killed were drivers who are bringing food items to Maiduguri from Biu and were caught up in cross fire at Molai, when the dreaded Boko Haram fighters attack security post in Molai, in their attempts to make an inroad to the city on Christmas evening.

Security operatives, who repel the insurgents told our correspondent that, they are still looking for more corpses, but confirms that, three people were burnt in their vehicles by the insurgents.

"It was a serious attack, we are still on patrol at Molai and environs. We have seen three people who were killed. We also learnt that they have abducted a woman in Molai, while they were fleeing. The situation is now calm, but the people who flee for safety are yet to return. We are trying to ensure that, innocent people are safe." A security source at the scene of the incident said.

It was earlier reported that, the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram have attacked ED Security Post in Molai, along Maiduguri/Biu road and overran it.

Earlier, a security source, who spoke to our correspondent said, "We are currently being mobilise to advance and the militants were said to be advancing toward the city. Our men are holding them. We need your prayers as usual."

Also a resident of Molai, told Our Correspondent that, the militants are advancing to the city, as many people were seen fleeing towards Maiduguri on foot including women and children.

"I am currently at Bakassi IDP camp. I spoke with my family who locked themselves in our home at Molai. They said I should not attempt coming home as the insurgents have killed many people including members of the civilian joint task force and order security personnel around Molai." A resident reported earlier.

Officially, the military authority and the Borno state police command is yet to make statement with regards to the attack in Molai.

Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud being the crown prince of Saudi Arabia would not destlablize his own neighbourhood without a reason.

And the only reason one can think of is the ProxyWar that has been going on between The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the The Republic of Iran since the 70's .

This has been the reason for civil wars in Iraq, Syria and Yemen leading to instability in the entire middle east.

Iran and Iraq being the hub of Shia and Sunni Muslims respectively have not shared a peaceful past since long.

Due to this region has witnessed numerous insurgencies,wars and uprisings in which Saudi Arabia continues to play a pivotal role.

He is not destablilizing the entire ME. If anything, he can certainly be accused by the entrenched old guard in his own kingdom of destabilizing SA. Compared to the dangerous and destructive mischief that Iran engages in, bin Salman is actually a force for stability. He opposes Iran the troublemaker; he opposes Hezbollah the troublemaker; he supports the legitimate government of Yemen against the Houthis, etc.

Rivers lawmakers divided over Amaechi, Abe

More revelations have emerged on the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers state.

Despite the obvious crack within the party’s fold in Rivers, some chieftains of the APC have continued to deny that all is not well.

But in an interview with selected journalists, the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator Andrew Uchendu picked on his colleague, Senator Magnus Abe of Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

Senator Uchendu in the interview said Senator Abe was wrong in his claim that the State APC Leader and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is responsible for the crisis rocking the party.

He said Senator Abe opted out of a decision that was jointly taken by leaders of the APC ahead of 2019 in a bid to pursue his personal ambitions.

Senator Uchendu also recalled the resolution at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the National Vice Chairman of the APC for South-South, ‎where it was agreed by all, including Senator Abe that there was no crisis in the party.

According to Uchendu, “At some point, Amaechi asked DAP to re-organize the party while he concentrated on the task of delivering as a Minister. At another, he withdrew that directive.

“He asked everybody with interest to first work towards rebuilding and re-uniting the party, while many agreed, few persons like Sen. Abe refused

“Amaechi made it possible for Abe to be the Minority Leader of the State Assembly while he (Amaechi) was Speaker; made it possible for him to cross over to the PDP and also ensured he got appointed as Commissioner for Information under then Gov. Peter Odili

“Amaechi wanted Abe to go to the Senate, at first attempt, it was unsuccessful, years later when the opportunity came, he kept to his words and ensured Abe went to the Senate against all odds

“Amaechi had another person in mind to become the Executive Director, Finance & Administration in NDDC, but Abe begged him for a concession to nominate a candidate, Amaechi obliged him by dropping his original candidate because of Abe’s appeal

“The 2019 gubernatorial candidate of APC will emerge through competitive primaries.”

Recall that Senator Magnus Abe has consistently blamed Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the crack in the party over the former’s governorship ambition.

Vvashko Sande puzzled his village when he decided to marry his mother-in-law as a second wife, despite stern warning from elders and angry protest from his first wife, Vimbai Magora.

Magora, who reportedly has four children with Sande, could not take it. She dragged him to court and accused him of abusing her and absconding his matrimonial duties to spend time with her mother.

“We got married in 2008 , but since 2011 he has been hostile as he had fallen in love with my mother,” Magora told a magistrate court in Zimbabwe's Zvishavane town.

Magora also told the magistrate that Sande was beating and insulting her and that he had threatened to throw her and her four children out of their matrimonial home.

"The family members have not been able to stop him. He never listened to anyone. Elder members of our family tried to discipline him but that too did not work. He still proceeded to marry my mother as his second wife," Magora lamented.

In his defense, Sande admitted that he was indeed deeply in love with his mother-in-law and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the two women.

“It is true that I love my mother-in-law, but I also still love my wife . I would like to spend the rest of my life with the two women,” Sande pleaded with the court.

While ruling on the matter, the presiding judge, Shepherd Mjanja, ordered Sande to desist from emotionally and physically torturing his first wife.

The judge did not annul the marriage between Sande and his mother-in-law.

Israel withdraws from UN agency over Jerusalem

Following in the footsteps of the US, Israel announced its exit from UNESCO, citing “attacks” by the organization. The move comes after 128 UN members voted to reject the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The decision was based on the UN-run agency’s “attempts to disconnect Jewish history from the land of Israel,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said. He added that the official letter of withdrawal will be submitted by the end of the year and that Israel will effectively leave the organization by the end of 2018.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed Israel’s envoy to UNESCO, Carmel Shama-Hacohen, to officially announce the withdrawal, Haaretz reports.

In doing so, Tel Aviv joins Washington, which announced in October that it will leave UNESCO due to its “continuing anti-Israel bias” and “the need for fundamental reform in the organization.” According to Haaretz, Netanyahu made the decision after a series of discussions centered around Israel’s desire to not leave the US isolated in the move.

According to UNESCO regulations, a member state’s exit takes effect on December 31 of the year after the official letter of intent is submitted. Even though the US made its official announcement earlier in October, both countries will leave the agency at the same time.

Israel’s announcement comes after 128 UN member states voted on Thursday at the General Assembly to reject US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Nine states voted against the resolution and 35 nations abstained.

Commenting on the vote, initiated by a number of Arab and Muslim countries, Prime Minister Netanyahu said he appreciated that “a growing number of countries refused to participate in this theater of the absurd.” He also thanked Trump and US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley “for their stalwart defense of Israel and their stalwart defense of the truth.”

Israel’s relationship with UNESCO has deteriorated since October 2016. Tel Aviv suspended ties with the organization after a draft resolution noted the importance of Jerusalem to three world religions – Christianity, Judaism, and Islam – but made no reference to why the city is significant to Christians or Jews.

“Just withdrawing, just leaving the field [of UNESCO] to others is not acceptable to many Israelis who also don’t think that the accent that some politicians put on the Jewish character of Israel is appropriate,” Amir Oren, an Israel-based columnist, told RT.

He said the decision to leave will hurt Israel’s cooperation in education, science and the arts, and possibly affect financial aid from UNESCO.
